BUDVA- “THE MIAMI OF MONTENEGRO”!

  • 5245

“The Miami of  Montenegro”  or  “Miniature Dubrovnik”.  These are the nicknames of Budva. The small town earned its first nickname for its large number of entertainment centers, bustling nightlife, luxury hotels, clubs, casinos, and the second for its well-preserved historical monuments and natural beauty, reminiscent of Dubrovnik at every step. Budva is considered to be the most popular tourist and entertainment center in the former Yugoslavia and now in the Balkans. With a history of 2,500 years, Budva has been ruled by Greeks, Byzantines, Venetians and, to a lesser extent, Turks for centuries. Traces of these states can be found in the architecture of the city at every step.

The best time to travel to Budva are, of course, the summer months. In summer, the city seems  really different. The reason of  this difference are the festivals held in Budva: the Budva Carnival in May, the Budva Music Festival in June, the Budva Theater Festival in July and August.

Stari Grad – Old Town

The heart of Budva is considered to be an ancient city (Stari Grad in the local language). The small town has accumulated so much value thanks to its medieval architectural monuments, narrow streets, churches, museums, and a port. There are many churches in Stari Grad,  both large and small: the Church of St. John the Baptist, the Church of St. Mary of Punta, the Church of St. Sobe the Sonctified, the Church of the Holy Trinity. Also visit the Budva Museum and the Budva Archaeological Museum if you are interested.  Dancing Girl Statue, Mogren Fortress Ruins, Open Art Studio, The Citadel are among the places to visit in Budva if you have a lot of time to spend there.

Budva Marina

There are huge cruise ships, luxury yachts competing with each other, as well as small fishing boats in the Port of Budva. Representatives of the restaurants lined up along the coast in the port of Budva are eager to introduce the menu o you. If you are a romantic traveler, you may get interested in  nice dinner organized on the yachts. To do this, you need to rent a yacht.

Sveti Stefan– The Island of Holy Stephan

The island is located 8 km south of Budva. It used to be a fishing village, but only since 1960 it has become Old Town. It is possible to go to the island by bus because it is a road. The island is not open to the public. If you are not a hotel guest, you cannot enter the island. There is a luxury hotel on the island, and many celebrities from around the world have stayed at this hotel. Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor and others. Only those who want to eat should reserve in advance in the hotel restaurants.

Skadarsko Jezero - Skadar Lake

Skadar Lake is called the secret treasure of Montenegro. In fact, this lake is rich in treasures. The unique nature is a true paradise for those who love all kinds of outdoor sports and adventure. The lake, which covers 1/3 of Albania and 2/3 of Montenegro, is connected to the Adriatic Sea by the Boyana River, and with Lake Ohrid - the Drina River.
